Kelly Truax has taught vocal music in the College Community School District (Prairie) in Cedar Rapids since the fall of 2000. Before that, Ms. Truax taught K-8 music at St. Pius in Cedar Rapids. At Prairie, Ms. Truax directs the 7th, 8th, and 9th Grade Men’s Choirs and the 9th Grade Women’s Choir. Truax also directs four select ensembles: Cantabile (9th grade women), Bad Buncha Boys (a select 7th grade men’s doo-wop choir), A Few Good Men (a select 8th grade men’s barbershop/doo-wop choir) and Guys With Ties (a select 9th grade barbershop choir.)
Kelly Truax is a graduate of the University of Iowa where she accompanied Kantorei, University Chorale and the Old Gold Singers. She is an active accompanist in the Cedar Rapids area– accompanying Chorale Midwest and St. Paul’s UMC. She has accompanied choirs at the NCACDA and ACDA levels, and has accompanied Opus Honor Choirs eight times. In 2012, Truax was the director of the Bass Clef Opus Choir.
